“Remember not the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you are good O Lord” (Psalm 25:7).
Many times the petitioner in the Psalms asks God to remember what a good fellow he has been; how he has turned from evil and pursued righteousness, thus giving God a reason to save him from wicked men. Not in this instance, however. Here the Psalmist prefers God’s capacity for forgetfulness. But then, perhaps with clearer thought, and not really wanting to be forgotten, he asks to remain in God’s loving remembrance. There is no peace or hope in the knowledge that I am remembered by someone who bears me a grudge. What an infinitely beautiful thing–to exist within the loving consciousness of God.
