John 6:35

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” (ESV)

We live in an age of instant gratification, right? Your Uber Eats takes 16 minutes, and you’re thinking, “Come on. Pedal faster.”

We can have almost anything in a moment. And yet so many of us are still looking for something more. Worn out. Running on empty. Wondering, is this it?

In John 6, Jesus feeds more than five thousand people with a kid’s lunch. The next day, the crowd chases him down. They want more bread in their bellies. They want what Jesus can give them right now.

But Jesus offers them something better: “I am the bread of life.” He’s not talking about bread and butter. He’s talking about the life we need for eternity.

So they ask, “What must we do?” And Jesus says, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”

Religion so often says, “Do, do, do.” But Christianity is all about what Jesus has done, done, done. We don’t earn our way in. We come to him and trust in what he has done for us.

Listen to this invitation in verse 37: “Whoever comes to me I will never cast out.”

You don’t have to have it all together. Come to him. Bring your hunger. Bring your thirst. Jesus has got you.

The good news is Jesus gives us life now because he gave himself for the life of the world. Jesus gave his body on the cross, dying the death we deserve. He rose again, and everyone who trusts in him has eternal life… and will be raised up on the last day.

Many people walked away from Jesus that day. But when he asked his closest friends if they’d leave too, Peter said, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.”

A better job. More status. A new relationship. They’re not necessarily bad things, but they can’t give us the life Jesus offers.

So come to Jesus. You don’t have to have it all together to be welcomed by God.

Like and share so others can see Jesus clearly.
