Only God’s Diamonds Are For Ever – Bilyana de Soto

DiamondsWhen is the last time you did something for the sheer joy of it?

You know…you had that inner smile that the face could hardly hide; your heart had a certain beat to it, and the eyes shone a little brighter. You felt alive on account of it. You were onto something good and no-one and nothing was going to talk you out of it!

Would you describe the relationship you have with God as joyous? Perhaps you have somehow lost touch with the joy and happiness of being part of God’s Kingdom. Jesus is calling us to discover God and faith, and being part of his kingdom, as the most exciting thing you’ll ever live for. Here is what Jesus had to say on the topic:

The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Matt. 13:44

How radical of Jesus to talk about God and his kingdom in this way. The solemnly pious could not relate to what He was about. Joy? To the ears of the synagogue worshippers of his day, this would‘ve sounded way over the top. I mean, you go to the synagogue, listen to the rabbi read the scrolls, pay your tithe, observe all the ceremonial do’s and don’ts and get excited about all sorts of other things – other than your faith. Not according to Jesus.

Only a God who is in possession of untold riches and treasures can extend such a bold invitation. Everything of mine for everything of his, is what’s on offer. Surely letting go of the specks of dust in the palm of my hand does not compare with the diamonds on offer. When you learn that fact, joy will accompany being part of God’s kingdom and being in a relationship with such a generously loving God.

So go on and discover what diamonds are on offer. Until you do you’ll just be a religious joy-killer, deluded by dust in the palm of your hand.
