Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit to sustain me (Psalms 51:12).
In Moffatt’s translation of the Bible, Jesus is described as a stimulator. (Phil. 2:1) “By all the stimulus of Christ.”
A famous missionary to India once described Christ’s ministry of spiritual restoration: “He is like the first rainfall of the monsoon in India – the dry, dusty ground, so barren and so hard and the very next day it has a green film of vegetation over it. The moisture apparently touches the dead soil…it is alive. So Jesus touches our parched and barren lives, and (they are revived) with life, with vitality and with hope.”
There is a downward path that will leave us lost and forlorn. A path so gradual that we do not suspect we are ‘run-down souls.’ How easy it is in this world of busy-ness to find ourselves trapped, tired, short-tempered and overwhelmed either in business or in ministry. No time to refuel, drifting, desperate that someday things will be different.
Friend, now is the time. You are in the care of a God who loves you with an everlasting love. Exodus 15:13 tells us that “In your unfailing love you will lead the people you have redeemed. In your strength you will guide them to your holy dwelling” (a place of rest). Psalm 33 tells us that “the earth is full of his unfailing love.”
If your soul is run-down, be revived by the promise in Isaiah 44:3: “For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground.”
May your thirsty soul be watered with the knowledge that God loves and cares for you.
