The Beach Umbrella
Some time ago, my family and I were at the beach, at the mouth of a big river. It was very windy, and our beach umbrella was blown into the water. It was heading straight out to sea.
Suddenly a big, burly fisherman jumped off some rocks, and with great difficulty brought it back to shore.
Huffing and puffing from the exertion, he climbed back on the rocks and gave me back my umbrella. And this is what I said to him, “Thanks mate, but it was hardly worth it for a $17 umbrella!”
I do tend to say the wrong things at the wrong times!
But here’s an even more shocking thing. Are you throwing away your life for a $17 umbrella? What are you chasing in this world? Popularity? A bigger house? Love from the wrong places?
Those things are just $17 umbrellas. Let them float away into the ocean. Remember: Don’t risk your life – don’t risk eternity – by chasing worthless things.
Don’t risk eternity by chasing worthless things.
