Yet the Lord set his affection on your forefathers and loved them, and he chose you, their descendants above all the nations . . . He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow and loves the alien; giving him food and clothing.
Deuteronomy 10:17:18
It is right and good for the Christian to exclaim: ‘I am so glad that Jesus loves me ..’ That Lord God almighty should choose to reveal himself to me while others remain in ignorance of him, is something to be remarked upon. Yet the believer must live also in the knowledge that God also loves the merest waif, the most insignificant, sidelined, defenceless and forgotten person. We enter the deep things of God when we begin to know that his love for us is but part of a much deeper, wider love than we could ever imagine.
