Thank God That Jesus Is Not A Politician!

Is Jesus just like another politician, somehow just out for your vote? In recent years, people everywhere have become cynical and disillusioned with the established political system. As the joke goes – Q: How do you know that a politician is lying? A: Their lips are moving.

At election time, it’s mostly a difficult decision between the worst of two evils. It seems almost impossible find a politician who fulfils their word and who does what they say.

Thank God that Jesus isn’t like that! Here’s a wonderful passage about how you can trust what Jesus says,

For the Son of God, Jesus Christ… was not Yes and No, but in Him was Yes. For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen (2 Cor 1:19–20, NKJV)

How would the Bible have been written if Jesus were a politician? What if Jesus’ Jesus’ promises depended on how the situation looked at the time, and what if he kept his options open depending on how difficult things got for him?

But Jesus is different. Jesus is not a politician.

Thank God Jesus isn’t a politician!

If Jesus were a politician, then he’d only be focused on the short-term benefits in our lives (much like so many of our own prayers!) rather thank keeping the bigger picture – the endgame – in view. And if Jesus were a politician, perhaps the passage above would have been written something like this:

The Son of God, Jesus Christ was variously Yes and No, so with Him, it’s always kind of Maybe. For all the promises of God are dependent on the circumstances, and so we’ll have to wait and see.

Unfortunately, the way we see God is affected by our experiences of other people. We have all been lied to, cheated, and betrayed, not only by politicians, by also by our friends, and sadly, too often by people whom we should have been able to trust the most, even our husbands and wives. We have been hurt so many times, that it really is difficult for us to see God as being any different.

But Jesus is different. Jesus is not a politician. God promised right at the beginning that he would send a Saviour to this world, and Jesus arrived at Bethlehem, right on time, and right on cue. Jesus promised to die for the sins of the world, and he did. Jesus promised to rise on the third day, and he did. And Jesus has promised that he will come again, and he will.

But here is the promise you can hold onto the most:

Whoever comes to me I will never cast out (John 6:37, ESV).

All you have to do is vote for Jesus, because at Calvary, he already voted for you with his own blood.

You can take that to the bank. It’s not a “maybe” or a “let’s wait and see.” That promise is a “Yes!” from Jesus (said with feeling and an extra-happy fist pump of joy).

To be saved, all you have to do is vote for Jesus, because at Calvary, he already voted for you with his own blood.

If you have come to Jesus, your salvation is secure. Thank God Jesus isn’t a politician! – Eliezer Gonzalez
