Today’s Assurance. Every Day.

“Your wife, Mary, will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins. This son will also be called. Immanuel — which means, ‘God with us’” (Matthew 1:21-23).

Many centuries earlier, God made this following promise to his people: ‘I will put my dwelling place among you, and I will not abhor you. I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people” (Leviticus 26:11-12).

This prophecy was fulfilled, to its greatest extent, in the coming of Jesus. He was “God with us.” He did not come to abhor us or to regard us with distaste, but to save us from the sins that condemn us. He came to save us, not to castigate us. He was punished and castigated for our sins so we wouldn’t be. Jesus came to save us from our sins.

When Jesus died on the cross he cried out in triumph, tetelestai (“It is accomplished). “He cancelled the debt and set us free” (Matthew 18:27).

You and I are not condemned for our sins and short-comings because Jesus offered to pay for all these when he died on the cross. Let’s live every day in the joy of that assurance.

I beg you, in the name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, do not despise his sacrifice for you. He wants you to grasp it with both hands, and to share it with others so they too, will rejoice in the assurance of his salvation.
