Unlimited: Establishing Their Own Righteousness
Apr 10, 2023 536
Since they did not know the righteousness of God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness (Romans 10:3).
How true this is of our day as well! When we don’t know the righteousness of God we will always try to establish our own. We will refuse to submit to the Gospel, through which the righteousness of God is revealed.
This is the easiest trap in the world for Christians to fall into. There was a time when I thought I knew all about the righteousness of God, but I was wrong.
The tower that reaches to the heavens was an image of humanity’s attempt to establish their own righteousness. It ended in disaster.
Since sin banished us from God’s presence, humanity has tried to build ladders and stairways of their own making to reach up to heaven. Prominent examples are the pyramids and the ziggurats of antiquity. The apostle Paul uses the metaphor of ascending into heaven to find righteousness (Rom 10:6.) This of course reminds us of the Tower of Babel, at which the people said,
…Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens… (Gen. 11:4.)
This tower that reaches to the heavens was an image of humanity’s attempt to establish their own righteousness. It ended in disaster. So too, if we do not know that God has already provided a perfect righteousness for us, and if we try to establish our righteousness through our own obedience and right living, it will end in disaster for us.
Spiritual Application
Was there a time in your life, when like me, you thought you knew all about righteousness, but you realized that you were merely trying to establish your own? What brought about the transformation in your thinking? How has your life changed since then?
Hosea 4:6 Death reigns because of ignorence. People rejected the true knowledge and tried to establish their own and that matters God destroys them. Thanks papa Jah bless your efforts.
