Unlimited: Faith That Encourages

I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong— 12 that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith (Romans 1:11–12).

If someone told you that they wanted to give you a spiritual gift to make you strong, what would you think? Would you hope for the gift of prophecy, or the gift of tongues, or the gift of wisdom? Perhaps you might hope for the gift of being able to sing and praise God beautifully with your voice, or other similar gifts. Perhaps you may prefer the gift of more money or of better health.

One of the most wonderful gifts that we can give one another is to be faithful, in our own lives, to God.

However, the gift that Paul wants to impart to the believers in Rome is to mutually encourage them with each other’s faith.

One of the most wonderful gifts that we can give one another is to be faithful, in our own lives, to God. Why? Because those around us will be encouraged in their own spiritual journeys by seeing your own faithfulness, through the good times and the bad. They will also see how the Lord will bless you for your faith, whether it be in the deliverance he will provide for you in this world, or by the grace and peace he will give you to endure until the next.

Spiritual Application

Have you ever asked God for a spiritual gift? Is there one you lack or need to grow in? Ask God for it! But remember, it isn’t God’s will that every person have all the gifts, but hope, faith, and love are the greatest gifts, and they are gifts for all. And never forget that the greatest of gift of all is love.
