Unlimited: Join Me in My Struggle

I urge you, brothers and sisters, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me (Romans 15:30).

Prayer isn’t always easy. Paul tells us that he “struggled” in prayer. This reminds us of Jacob’s struggle when he wrestled with the Lord all night, and overcame (Gen 32:22–32.)

However, our struggles are not ours alone. Not only is this damaging for every aspect of our being, but it isn’t God’s will for us that we bear our burdens by ourselves. As members of the one body of Christ, we are to share one another’s struggles.

We can enter into each other’s struggles in many ways. By doing this we will find healing ourselves, bless each other, and grow together as part of Christ’s body. Even more than this, we will find the joy in the depths of relationships that God has prepared for us.

As members of the one body of Christ, we are to share one another’s struggles.

It is sad yet true that we don’t always have the right people around us, or a community that functions the way that God intended. If that is your situation, then this is even more reason to reach out rather than withdraw within yourself.

One of these ways in which we can join one another in our struggles is through prayer. That is specifically what Paul is talking about here. When we pray, we align our hearts and minds with those who are struggling, and with the heart of God on their behalf.

Spiritual Application

Are you struggling with an issue right now? It’s not always easy in our individualistic culture to ask someone to help you in your struggle. Reach out and ask them to pray together with you over the matter that is causing you most concern.
