Unlimited: The Secret of Power

The Secret of Power in Jesus life is found in plain sight:

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Simon and his companions went to look for him, and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!”

Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.” So, he travelled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons (Mark 1:35-39).

Mark’s biography of Jesus has been non-stop action up to this point, where Jesus demonstrated the awesome power of God through his miracles and his teaching.

Jesus has just had a very busy day in Capernaum. But now the pace changes, and we get a glimpse of the source of that power.

The Secret of Power for Jesus Can Be Yours

Jesus had arisen in the very hours of the morning and had gone off alone to pray. This was the Secret of Power: his connection with the Father through prayer.

But Peter and his friends are more focused on the work that needs to be done than on the power that is needed for the work. They go looking for Jesus and call him to come back to Capernaum.

But Jesus is always full of surprises, and he says, no, he isn’t going back.  He is going on to work in the other villages in Galilee.

Jesus ministry wasn’t about staying in one place and building a strong base there. He would go to a place, present the message of the kingdom, and then move on, all while relying on his deep connection to God the Father in prayer. This was the Secret of Power in Jesus life.

Eli’s Reflection: Our job as followers of Jesus is not to work much and pray enough, but to pray much and work enough. That was Jesus’ secret. He knew that without a living connection with the Father, he could do no work. For Jesus, prayer came first. Is it first for you?

Great! I have learnt the secret of prayer that as followers of Jesus, our work is to pray much and work enough, and yes this is good balance on both sides.
