Unlimited: They Became Fools

Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools (Romans 1:22)

Paul is here referring to those who deny God. The thinking of those who deny God will ultimately be worthless, no matter how proud they may be of their intellectual achievements.

Our world has followed the trajectory of King Solomon. Like Solomon, our world had a good start. It was created by God and declared to be good (Genesis 1).

Solomon was the son of David: a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22). When he was crowned as King of Israel, Solomon was a humble and faithful servant of God. He was renowned for his wisdom.

However, once Solomon became powerful, he lost his way. This man who was so wise, made the most unwise decisions. He abandoned everything he once knew to be true and good, and gave himself up to every pleasure that was available to him.

In the Heart of Fools

The so-called “wisdom” of the world is foolishness to God.

The same is true of our world today. Our world defiantly revels in its atheism. The words of the psalmist David are as true today as they were when they were written:

The fools says in his heart, “There is no God” (Ps 14:1.)

The so-called “wisdom” of the world is foolishness to God (1 Cor. 1:18–30.) The wisdom of God is to acknowledge Christ crucified as our righteousness (1 Cor. 1:23–24,30.)

Spiritual Application

Prayerfully read 1 Corinthians 1:18–31. In what ways does the “wisdom” of the world continue to influence your thinking? How can you align your thoughts and life more with God’s true wisdom: Christ crucified?

Wonderful. The message is clear. The preaching of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing but it is power to those who are saved according to Paul and its true. The world can't does not the spiritual sense of understanding what will become of it that day of the Lord because they are drunk with the spirit of worldilness that makes fool of them.
