Unlimited: We Need to Be Reminded
Nov 22, 2023 578
Yet I have written you quite boldly on some points to remind you of them again, because of the grace God gave me to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles (Romans 15:15–16a).
Paul has acknowledged that the members of the Roman church are filled with goodness and knowledge in how to deal with each other in love. Yet Paul has still urged them strongly on these points. Why? Because they needed to be reminded. We all need to be reminded.
We don’t, however, like to be reminded, because it’s always tempting to think that we’re already there. But when we are reminded, it isn’t for our condemnation; it’s because, as Paul tells us, of the grace that God has given us. This is an important point to remember.
We all need to be reminded.
It is also significant that Paul says that he has “written to you quite boldly”. It seems that the apostle Paul was much more impressive in his writing than in his speaking, since he quotes his enemies as saying of him that,
…His letters are weighty and forceful, but in person he is unimpressive and his speaking amounts to nothing (2 Cor. 10:10.)
His letters reveal that Paul was often very blunt and direct, and that he repeats the things that he considers to be most important over and over again. Paul reminds us that no matter our personalities or our gifts, what matters most is that we accept one another and put the love of Christ first in all of our relationships.
Spiritual Application
We are all so prone to forget the most important things of our spiritual lives! What is it that you most easily forget? What can you put in place to help you keep it “front of mind” this week?
