Unlimited: You Must Let God Win

Whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it (Matthew 16:25).
I once haggled for twenty minutes with a young lady in the Shanghai markets for a bag. When we finally agreed a price, she handed me my bag, and said, “Ooooh, you’re very good! You know the prices!” Then she asked, “Do you have a girlfriend?” I took her question as a compliment on my great negotiation skills, and I told her I was happily married.
In the Bible, Jacob is the great negotiator. His prayers are full of his requests, and the deals he wants to make with God. But when God comes to wrestle with him, Jacob realises that here is someone whom he cannot outwit or overpower.
Jacob wrestles all night, and still he’s no closer to winning. It’s only when God cripples him that Jacob realises he’s been wrestling with God all along. Then he gives up. And at that point, God incredibly announces that Jacob has actually won!
The reality of the Kingdom of Heaven, which is the ultimate reality, turns the values of the world upside down. We win by losing, gain by giving, and lead by sacrificing. We need to stop trying to win in our own lives, and instead let God win.
Because when we surrender, we win; and when we’re broken, then God can make us whole.

Eli’s Reflection:What are you struggling with right now? Whatever it is, are you prepared to let God win? When God wins, the situation doesn’t always appear as we expected, and it doesn’t necessarily happen according to our own timetable. If you are ready, find a peaceful place away from your everyday life, and surrender this issue completely to the Lord.
