Daniel 12:3

And those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky above; and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever. (ESV)

Daniel 12 is in the context of — it’s a picture of — the last day, the day of resurrection when some will be raised to eternal life and some will be raised to eternal death.

And verse 3 there describes those who are wise. And in the Old Testament, the beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord. And so to live wisely in God’s world is to know that it’s God’s world, that he is God, that we are not. And ultimately, we even read in the book of Revelation that we’ll be part of God’s eternal kingdom, raised to life if we’ve trusted in Jesus and persevered in him until the end.

And so wise living, that is knowing that God is God, knowing that Jesus is our Saviour, and trusting in him, means we will shine brightly like the sky above.

But second we will also shine brightly forever and ever if we are those who give ourselves to turning others to righteousness. That’s got to mean turning others to God that they find life in God. Turning others to Jesus that they find forgiveness of their sin through Jesus.

And so, friends, know God today and be part of helping to make him known to other people as you point others to righteousness that’s found in Jesus and Jesus alone.
