Verse of the Day Ephesians 2 18 with Dave Miers

Ephesians 2:18

For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. (ESV)

What a beautiful glimpse of the triune God. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit at work.

It says there in verse 18 that “we both”. Who’s the both? The both is talking about Jews and Gentiles — those who were once hostile to one another and together hostile to God.

It’s already described in the verses beforehand. We are no longer far away. We have reconciliation. We have peace.

But here in verse 18, it says together we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. That’s an extraordinary invitation!

In the section just after that it describes how we are members of the household of God.

You see, what we are invited in is not just forgiveness and not just peace but we’re actually welcome to be seated at the table with God. We have permanent access as members of his household. We can call him Father. We are filled with the one Spirit through Jesus Christ our Lord and our Saviour who lived, who died and who was raised again.

Make sure you check out the whole of Ephesians 2:11-22. It’s a stunning passage, worthy of your reflection.
