But his answer was: “My grace is all you need, for my power is greatest when you are weak.” I am most happy, then, to be proud of my weaknesses, in order to feel the protection of Christ’s power over me.”—2 Corinthians 12:9 GNT

What the above verse says is the very opposite of popular thinking.  When we come to the place where we see our utter weakness and surrender completely to God we are in a position to receive His power and really not until then.

God’s manifestations of power are not the way the world looks at power.  In His kingdom such things as meekness, humility, gentleness, and unselfish service are power.  In the world power is usually manifested in people gaining ascendency over others in some way—economically, positions of power and authority, etc. In the kingdom of God power is measured in terms of service.  Those who serve the most are the truly powerful in His eyes.

Jesus, the meek and lowly one who had not a place to call His own, was a direct threat to the religious and civil power brokers of His day and so they crucified him to preserve their authority.  In the end those responsible for this lost everything and died horrible deaths.  Their striving for worldly power was their very undoing and thus it can be for all of us if we aren’t careful.

All of us need to remember the mission of Jesus to this earth and not allow ourselves to be deceived by popular thinking:

For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.—Mark 10:45 ESV
