What’s the best news you could ever receive right now? In fact, it’s such good news, that whatever you may be facing, you can face it with courage!
In Matthew 9, we find the story of a paralysed man who was brought to Jesus. He was lying on a mat on the ground because he couldn’t stand up or walk. This is what Jesus said to him,
Be encouraged, my child! Your sins are forgiven (Matt 9:2, CEB).
Jesus didn’t say what you might have expected him to say. There was an immediate problem. The man expected that Jesus would heal him so that he would be able to walk again. But instead, Jesus forgives his sins.
There is a very important lesson here. No matter what our situation may be, the reason why you can be encouraged is because Jesus has forgiven your sins.
Because if Jesus has forgiven your sins, then can know with certainty that you are loved by God, and that you will surely overcome every adversity in your life. Because your sins are forgiven, you have eternal life.
By the way, the story ends like this:
[Jesus] said to the paralyzed man, “Get up, take your mat and go home.”7 Then the man got up and went home. 8 When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe; and they praised God (Matt 9:6–8, NIV)
Don’t ever challenge God by trying to restrict salvation to people just like us.
This man had been brought to the lowest point possible by the troubles of this world: he was literally groveling on the ground. But Jesus raised him up to the highest place imaginable: he was not only healed of his disease, but he went home knowing that his sins had been forgiven.
You may be facing a broken relationship, financial difficulties, and struggles in your body and mind. The troubles of life may have brought you to the ground. But if you look up to Jesus, you will find help.
Jesus may not give you what you think you most need. Because he knows what you most need, and it is always an outflowing of forgiveness from his heart to yours. When you know that you are forgiven by God, you can face anything. You can be encouraged.
And then Jesus will take care of your other troubles in his way, and in his time.
Whatever may be the troubles you are facing, you can be encouraged if you are at the feet of Jesus. You can know that, because he has forgiven your sins. Jesus is going to raise you up. And when the people around you see what Jesus has done in your life, they will know that Jesus stands with you, and they will give all the praise to God. – Eliezer Gonzalez
