Your Number One Priority Today — Psalm 133:3 | Good News for Today
Aug 22, 2026 5
THIS thing should be your number one priority today.
Psalm 113:3
“From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the LORD is to be praised!”

Your number one priority today is to praise the name of the LORD. From sun up to sun down and everything in between. All day. Every day.
You’ve got lots of things to do today. I know. Some of them are really important. And if we’re honest, most of us struggle to get through everything on our to-do lists.
In Psalm 113:1-3, we have this repeated call to praise the name of the LORD.
So why should praising the name of the LORD be our biggest priority? As we read on, we see two big reasons: 1) He alone is God, and 2) He cares for you.
First, he alone is God.
From verses 4-6, we see that the LORD is the transcendent God of the universe. Who is like him? The answer: there is no one like him! He is seated on high as the creator, sustainer, and ruler of all things. No one is more worthy of our praise. It would be easy to imagine a God so high and so mighty being out of reach from us. But read on.
The second reason he is worthy of our praise: he cares for you.
In verses 7-9, the transcendent God on high is also the immanent God who comes near. “He raises the poor from the dust”, and he gives hope to the barren woman. There is none like him — so high and exalted, and so near to the humble. As the sun rises and sets on your day, you might be well aware that not everything is going well in your world. And yet, you can still praise the name of the LORD who alone is God and who comes near to help in our time of need.
If you have any doubt of God’s care for you — look to Jesus. In Philippians 2 we read that Jesus — who is in very nature God — humbled himself and became a human. Jesus went even lower than just becoming a human; he went to the lowest place – to death upon a cross — to help us in our greatest time of need. Death couldn’t hold him down; he then rose from the dead and is now seated at the highest place, and he too is worthy of all our praise.
Make praising Jesus your priority today.
