The Heavens Declare The Glory of God – by Bilyana de Soto

StarsThe Bible reveals to us a glorious God who wants to be known by us. Through his creation God proclaims his glory and shouts his wisdom and his power. “You have set your glory above the heavens”, says David in Psalm 8:1. He wants you and me to be drawn to him because of who He is, and on account of what He does.

However with today’s knowledge about the vastness of the universe, we are no longer just in ecstasy about the enormousness and the beauty of God’s universe, but are struck by our own insignificance in the light of its vastness.

In Psalm 19 we find the grandeur of creation, but in Psalm 8 we find glory in the love of the creator. “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars which you have ordained; what is man that thou art mindful of him?” Ps. 8:3-6

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.  Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge.  There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard.  Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun, which is like a bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion, like a champion rejoicing to run his course. It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is hidden from its heat” (Psalm 19:1–6).

No doubt the writer of this glorious psalm was making a much bigger point here: if creation is so great, how much greater is its Creator? But the wonder of wonders is that this same glorious God became one of us. The Jews asked Jesus “Show us the Father,” Jesus responded, “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.” David recognized the God of all creation to be his redeemer and finishes Psalm 19 with the words, “O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer”.

In the vastness of the universe I may only be a speck of dust, but in the heart of Jesus, I was worth dying for. I pray that in your heart Jesus is worth living and dying for also.
