As He Thinks

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he…. —Proverbs 23:7 NKJV

For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned. —Matthew 12:37 ESV

There is a part of our human nature that gravitates towards the negative, the morbid, and the macabre. Everyday we are bombarded with all of the bad things going on in the world and very little is ever said about the good things.

When we think about and talk of things like pain, sickness and old age we greatly increase these very things in our own experience. When I hear people talking of these topics I choose not to participate in the conversation and leave if possible.

God is my ultimate refuge and strength and living in fellowship with Him is my life and sustenance. Apart from a living relationship with Him we are wide open to being sucked into the web of deception that engulfs the great masses. Walking in close fellowship with God often means going contrary to popular ways of thinking and living (see Matthew 7:13-14).

The rewards of choosing to live in the presence of God are indeed wonderful and I recommend this way of life to everyone. I believe there are unexplored dimensions here that we’ve scarcely touched. The power of communion with God has gotten lost in the midst of the information super highway and endless trivia. We have the story of Esau selling his birthright to satisfy his physical appetite.

So many today are in effect selling their spiritual heritage in favor of following popular culture. God calls His children to draw ever closer to Him. Will you respond to His call?
