You killed him with the sword of the Ammonites.
2 Samuel 12:9
By positioning Uriah the Hittite, in the thick of battle, David thought to reassign liability for his loyal servant’s death to the Ammonites. As it turned out, it was their arrows that struck Uriah, ending his life. But nothing could remove the guilty stain from David’s hand. He willed and engineered the murder. If the One who sees and knows all should cross-examine us, how many blows, woundings, ostensibly delivered by others, might be traced to our murderous intentions?
