“The Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us” (Rom. 8:26).
When we first accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour we are only babes in the faith, not really knowing what our true needs are. But the Spirit, like a loving parent, can interpret our cries. He can tell whether we are hungry, uncomfortable or chaffed, whether we are happy, hurt or confused. The Spirit knows our real needs and answers them accordingly.
We are so blessed in having such a loving God to care for us. Just as a loving parent would not allow his five-year old son to play with a loaded gun, so the Spirit will not lay on us responsibilities that we are not ready for.
Today, as every day, we can confidently follow the Spirit’s leading, knowing that God works for our ultimate well-being and salvation.
