Make A Masterpiece

Yet, O Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand (Isaiah 64:8).
The potter working with the clay reminds us that God is at work in us “for His good pleasure” (Phil. 2:13). It is a time to grow, to be shaped into a useful vessel. We need to trust the Potter, for He is making us into a vessel to be put into service for Him.
The following except is based on Jeremiah 18:1-6:
“The shaping of clay of often difficult and frustrating. There is clay to be weathered, stored and prepared for fashioning. Then there is the wheel. The hand-turned wheel consists of two discs and as the ball of clay spins, the centrifugal force upon the clay is controlled by the deft fingers of the potter so that the desired vessel could be made – as long as the quality of the clay permitted the completion of the vessel. Jeremiah witnessed that factors can be present that defeat the original intention of the potter. It was this process that Jeremiah noted carefully” (Zondervan Pictorial Encyclopedia of the Bible, 1978).
You are the Potter, I am the clay, Make me and mould me, Master, today.
Take now this simple clay – to You it belongs, In my hands it’s nothing, but Your hands are strong.
Make a masterpiece, O Lord, cost what it may, Mould me now, press me down, take impurities away.
And as I thus prayed, You heard me, You took the challenge to work right away. And Lord, those answers are just so hard to take, when I see my weaknesses and my vessel breaks. But in Your hand, Lord, I do believe the right impressions the clay will receive. And what a heartfelt joy when you raise me up – a glorious vessel, and fill my cup.
These are the words of a song I heard recently that set my heart to thinking of God’s moulding in my life. Have I submitted to the deft fingers of the Potter? Is God at work in your life?
Make us a Masterpiece, O Lord, I pray.
