Never be Ashamed

There is a way in which you will never be ashamed.
I would venture to say that most of us, if not all of us, have secrets: and some of those secrets might make us cringe when we remember them. Some of them might perhaps secrets that we would never dare tell anyone.
Shame was the first emotion that Adam and Eve are recorded to have felt after their first sin.
Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”
10 He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”
11 And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?” (Gen. 3:7–11.)
Notice how in the case of Adam and Eve, shame was followed by fear, which resulted in them hiding. Shame always causes us to be afraid, and to hide our true selves from others.
You need never be ashamed
Indeed, shame is one of the worst of human emotions. Shames goes beyond guilt. Guilt tells you that what you did was rubbish. Shame tells you that you are rubbish. It is shame that keeps people imprisoned in abusive relationships. It is shame that keeps people enslaved in the worst addictions. It does these things by telling you that you are unworthy of being loved, and so we try to fill the aching hole within us in ways that cause us harm.
But what if I told you that you could have something of which you would never be ashamed? And the good thing is it’s not even a secret!
The Bible tells us
“Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame” (Rom. 10:11.)
There was a time when it seemed, to all human understanding, that this was completely untrue. It seemed that believing in Jesus was the reason for the greatest shame. In first century society, the Roman cross was the most shameful end that could be conceived. There was no more shameful way to die than to be crucified on a Roman cross.
When you know you have won, and won at everything, how can there be any place for shame in your life?
As Jesus hung there in agony, almost all of his followers had abandoned him and fled, even the ones who had professed the greatest loyalty to him. There at the cross, there were some women, including his mother, Mary, and only one of his disciples: John.
Why? Because of the shame. And shame is followed by fear. His followers felt the shame.
Yet a few weeks later, on the Day of Pentecost, they disciples were boldly proclaiming Jesus as the Messiah and Saviour in the same city where he had been crucified! What was most shameful had turned into something that was most glorious! What was it that made the difference?
Winning had made the difference! When you know you have won, and won at everything, how can there be any place for shame in your life. And so it was with the disciples. They had witnessed the victory of Jesus over the grave, and they were filled with the knowledge that they were overcomers with him. They had defeated death, the religious leaders who had put Jesus to death, the Roman empire, and they knew that despite their stumbles and falls, they were accepted and chosen by Christ. That is just as true today as it was back then.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ frees us from guilt, but it does much more than that. The Gospel delivers us from shame, removes all fear, and allows us to live as our true, authentic selves.
When you know that you are eternally and extravagantly loved, you will never be ashamed. That can all be yours today, by believing in Jesus.

Thank you very much for this message. Lately i have been filled with this overwhelming sense of shame, but today after reading this message, there's this sense of joy and hope again having been reminded of what my Saviour has accomplished for me at the cross. To God be the glory for His plan of salvation that has catapulted us from being illegitimate children to His beloved children
