Unlimited: What the Gospel Reveals
Apr 13, 2022 1269
For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed (Romans 1:17a)
The apostle Paul has started defining the Gospel. Now he tells us more about how the Gospel works. He tells us here that the Gospel reveals the righteousness of God.
There are many people who go to church who speak and teach as if the Gospel reveals our righteousness. But it doesn’t. There is no one who is righteous, not even one. The Gospel only reveals God’s righteousness, and his righteousness is only revealed through Christ.
I have heard it said that the Gospel is, whether partially or fully, about us being righteous in our lives. The explanation is given that this righteousness is not through our work, but through Christ’s work.
The Gospel reveals the righteousness of God.
Of course, the apostle Paul would agree that God works through his Spirit in the lives of believers to transform their lives and make them more obedient to God. However, this isn’t the Gospel.
The Gospel is a saving revelation of the righteousness of God. That righteousness was revealed through Christ at the Cross. It needs to be revealed to us because it is completely foreign to us.
It is impossible for the human mind to invent or imagine what the Gospel reveals. All that our impoverished minds can conceive is of our own goodness as the reason for our salvation, and that is simply not good enough.
Spiritual Application
Take some time to reflect on just how the Gospel reveals the righteousness of God in your salvation. Savour each treasure that you discover, and thank God for it.

Absolutely right in greater extent. The gospel recognizes Jesus Christ us our righteousness and when you Jesus you yield a candidate of his righteousness.
