Radio Version:
What’s In a Name?
When I was travelling in northern India, I relied on my Hindi-speaking friend for help with the language. For example, he’d often tell me what to say on the spur of the moment, so I wouldn’t get charged extra as a foreigner.
Once, he told me that I should say “rupali,” to a stewardess on a domestic flight. So I smiled and said, “rupali,” nicely, to her.
Later on, he told me that I had called her beautiful.
I really was embarrassed, because I hadn’t meant to be inappropriate. But I must say that I got great service on the flight!
There’s a name that gets a much bigger reaction than that. It’s the name of Jesus.
Jesus is, after all, the most beautiful name of all! And when you use it, God listens, not because of the name itself, but because of the one who bears it. Remember: Jesus is the most beautiful name of all.
Jesus is the most beautiful name of all.
